South Street Piano Studio

Theresa has taught 4 of my children over the last 18 years. They have learned so much about music - reading music, playing the piano, performing, and appreciating music. Theresa is encouraging and helps them focus, while making learning fun and being open to helping them explore different kinds of music. My kids really like that they can just sit down and play something. - by Barbara Guise

We could not ask for a better piano teacher than Theresa Woody. She makes learning music enjoyable, even as she gets her students to stretch and develop their abilities. In a relatively short time, our daughter had a solid foundation in music theory that prepared her for a formal choir program. She looks forward to her lessons and practices daily, without any prompting from us. Theresa has a knack for tapping into whatever makes it click for her students. Learning music is joyful. It's never a chore. We (and our neighbors) are grateful for the beautiful concerts in our house! :) - by Kristen Eshleman

I have studied piano with Theresa Woody for several years. She is an excellent piano teacher being first of all friendly and encouraging and ready to give praise when it is deserved.

Theresa demands accuracy in technique and offers many ideas and exercises to achieve this. We work on a particular phrase until it is precisely right even though this may take some time. She is very patient and requires patience from me to be prepared to work in this detailed way.

When it comes to musical expression Theresa is expansive and draws musical ideas from me as well as herself so that we can discuss the music in a profound way.

Each piano lesson with Theresa is demanding and joyful at the same time. I heartily recommend her for students at all levels. A new discovery of music awaits them. - by Rosalind Seneca

Mr. Francis Whang, my former piano professor from UNC CHapel Hill, had this to say :

Dear Theresa,

I was very taken with your studio class recital on Saturday afternoon. Your teaching is to be admired and as I said in my brief comment to your students and their families, you are doing an outstanding job of giving your students a high quality pianist experience. My observations of your students’ playing were of excellent rhythmic playing, good hand position and proper posture, good tone production, and a very fine sense of musical motion. There were one or two exceptions amongst your players, some problems seemingly coming from a perceived level of nervousness. I was also very pleased to see that you have taught your students to present themselves well in terms of stage comportment and manner of dress.

In a word, you have developed into a musician to be admired.

Very sincerely,

“Fritz” (your UNC piano instructor)

I played for many years with Theresa in middle school and high school, and she taught me incredible skills, technique, and diligence. I'm 5 years out of high school now, and happy to say that I'm still playing piano, and using the techniques that she taught me years ago. Couldn't recommend her more! - by Dana Neidinger

I would like to take this opportunity to recommend Theresa Woody and her South Street Piano Studio. Two years ago, as a novice, I began studying piano with Theresa. I found her to be flexible in her teaching to accommodate my needs as an adult learner. She will often improvise exercises to assist me in learning various techniques as well as being open to exploring different types of piano music from show tunes to classical pieces to holiday favorites. For any adult who has always wanted to study piano but has hesitated, I heartily recommend Theresa. - by Carol Jaenicke

I would recommend Theresa for anyone who wants to take piano. She is passionate about her field, loves teaching, and her enthusiasm is contagious! I am an adult student with a few years of childhood piano lessons who always wished I had kept it up. I now have the time to pursue piano, and I don't have to do recitals(unless I want to)! I am taking it solely for a love of music, and Theresa has taught me so much! She is a master! And such a nice person! - by Linda Gossage
